About restoration

When we look at a restorer as at an artist – we are right. But if we imagine him as a skillfull craftsman …we are right as well. This profession connects artistic feeling, historical styles knowledge and a craftsman´s wisdom as much as no other does.

A really experienced restorer was presented with very big sense of beauty and respect to a graceful material he is working with but most of all to the author, or the creator of restored artifact. He always has to put himself into the thing and to copy the work and intention of several decades or even centuries  old.

Every day he has to face off to finiteness of our being  and to relativity of the time and age.

Even though the modern human being and his needs and desires have changed over las two hundred years, the materials and procedures are still the same. Already couple of centuries  a shellac pollish makes a shine on an antique furniture and it gives a nobleness to an aristocratic and burgher´s furniture. But the origins of this pollish are not so noble at all. Shellac pollish consists of excrements of a special Indian beetle. Those excrements are soaked in an alcohol and then dehydrated and diluted again and the created solution is then coated in several layers on to the wooden surface. No wonder that the consumed energy - human and natural is glowing from these objects on us for many years.

Joints and constructios do not survive for so many years. Why is it so? Well, we are there against the nature again - in the form of bone glue. There is no drop of  today´s chemistry, but our restorer knows how to handle with it, how to boil down this forgotten glue and to connect everything that has to keep together. It is not only connection of two pieces of a material, but also connection of two worlds - the old and the new one.

Do not forget about painting, those proud but today a little bit neglected branch. Do you remember the picture from your childhood? When you have been fascinated by childy modelled face of a lady and that dog she was holding in her hands. It seemed  whiter before, but now it is apricot. And the lady has been laughing more before and her cheeks were virgin rose as well and the whole impression was emphasized by the clock tones in a beautiful gilded frame.Do you want to experience this atmosphere again? Restorer  cannot turn back the time, but thanks to him you can smell the fresh scent of the original dammar lacquer again  and to hear the melody of musical clock as well.

Indulge to your favourite furniture, clock or painting a health stay at the restoration master. Just give him time he will need for his work and indulge ourselves the beautiful experience and joy of rediscovered beauty of old days.
